How To Prepare Filling And Healthy Salads For Any Meal

There is something for everyone to cook. Are you able to purchase ingredients and follow recipe directions? Can you access basic equipment for cooking? If so, then there is no reason you should not cook! This article contains some simple advice and a few creative ideas which will help you to advance your culinary skills to the next level, so that you can effortlessly produce delicious meals night after night.

Strain unnecessary fat from the top of your soups and stews. If your soup has too much fat cool it down and the fat will rise to the top. Place an ice cube in your spoon and skim it along the surface. The ice in the spoon will collect the excess fat. A paper towel can also be used to gather the fat by blotting it.

Use a stackable cooling rack. If you are baking six dozen cookies, they can consume all the available space when you cool them. Space can be better used if you incorporate racks for cooling that have multiple layers. Using an area of vertical space rather than every available flat surface gives your cookies the space they need to cool and gives you the space you need to work.

Dry your own tomatoes. Start by slicing a ripe tomato one-half inch thick, or you can cut Roma tomatoes in half lengthwise. Place the resulting tomato pieces on a rack, then salt their exposed flesh lightly. After placing the rack atop a cookie sheet, allow the tomatoes to dry for 10 hours in an oven at 190 degrees. Place them in the freezer in plastic bags. For flavored olive oil add some dried tomatoes and fresh herbs in a good quality extra virgin olive oil and store out of direct sunlight. When refrigerated, they will last a minimum of two weeks.

To easily measure sticky foods, use cooking oil! Prior to measuring, coat the spoon in the oil, like canola, so that the substance can slide off easier without waste and making a mess. These same methods can be repeated with honey, and peanut butter as well.

There's a neat trick you can use to save your sauce. In a small bowl, combine two tablespoons of water and 3 teaspoons of corn starch. You can then add the solution to the sauce and it will become thicker. Stir the sauce constantly as you slowly add the starch mixture until it reaches the desired thickness.

Consider warming citrus fruits in the microwave for a bit before juicing. A quick ten seconds in the microwave is all that is needed for your lemons, oranges and other fruits. Once you take it out, roll it on your counter and then cut it to begin the juicing process.

If you purchase unripened fruits, place them in a perforated plastic bag. Ethylene gas is produced as a by-product of the ripening process. By using the plastic bag with small holes, you are circulating the air in the bag which allows the fruit the retain its taste.

Fresh garlic is ideal when preparing dishes that call for garlic. One rule to remember is that if you want sweet garlic, choose fresh garlic. You can tell that garlic is fresh when it isn't bruised, mushy or shriveled. The skin should be firm.

It is important to hold off on adding salt and/or garlic when you are making dried beans. Instead, add these ingredients once the beans are soft. This is because adding salt or garlic will stop your beans from getting softer, particularly if you are cooking old beans. Save the seasonings until the beans have cooked at least part of the way to get the texture that you want.

When preparing a pasta dish, you should add salt to the boiling water before adding the noodles. This will help season the pasta as it cooks. Pasta salted during cooking tastes better than pasta salted after the fact.

If you are looking for ways to include more protein to your daily diet, look no further than beans and tofu. Both can be found at any grocery store. Try frying tofu and adding seasoning to replace meat. Boil beans with a sauce or herbs, or add them to a salad to serve up some additional protein.

Try setting the oven timer, along with your watch's timer. Your watch timer or wearing a stopwatch on a cord around your neck can help you monitor the cooking time and not miss the beep of the oven timer regardless of where you might be in your home.

Cooking can be skill, a hobby, and a profession. Take lots of advice from others who are good at cooking. It's the best way you can learn. Keep this article's tips in mind when you next decide to do a little kitchen work!
